  1.   Roll out a layer of damp-proof membrane over the entire subfloor surface.
  2. Trim the membrane so that it will go up the edge of the wall approximately 2 inches using a utility knife.

  3. Tape the membrane in place using masking tape at all of the seams and around the edges.

  4. Lay out a layer of foam underlayment over the entire floor. Trim it to fit the floor with a utility knife.

  5. Measure the width of the room. Divide the width of the room by the width of the laminate floorboard. The result is the number of laminate floorboards you will need for the floor.

  6. Divide the number of floorboards you will need in half. The result of the division is the length you should use for the beginning and ending boards on the floor.

  7. Cut the first and last boards for the floor with a miter saw based on your calculation in Step 5.

  8. Place the first floor board in the corner so that it is oriented along one wall. Insert the remaining boards along the wall to create a row. Laminate boards lock into place. If you need to, you can tap the board with a block of wood and mallet to get it to snap into place. Leave a 1/4-inch space away from the wall around the entire floor to allow for expansion and contraction of the boards.

  9. Continue installing additional rows of laminate floor boards until you reach the final board. Insert the end board that you cut in Step 6 into place. Be sure to stagger the joints of boards so that they fall in the center of the following board.
